Positive Spaces : Weaving In Singapore
Every since the introduction of Pinterest, I've been introduced to many beautiful craftworks and art pieces. I first saw a woven wall art or wall tapestries on pinterest and I've been taken ever since.
Woven Wall art is a type of tapestry, using a vertical loom we weave different colored wools, cotton, silks or linen in between the threads to create an image or art. It's essentially a blank canvas, allow the user to be as simple or as creative as possible.
This popular 70s artform is taking trend again all over the world especially in the USA and Australia. Young creatives like Design Love Fest & A Beautiful Mess are all gushing about it.
With fresh new colors and styles, woven wall art is a wonderful way to fill up your wall with some positive self-created energy.
My great inspiration is Maryanne Moodie who began weaving while she was pregnant, she produces the most lushes of woven art that still has me drooling in my IG! Other wonderful inspirations can be seen on my pinterest board here.
When I first wanted to try my hands on weaving, I realised that no one was really doing it in Singapore. Apart from the complex looms like the foot treadle loom and the free standing loom, there wasn't a place for lap looms and hobbist weavers.
So I began experimenting with creating several different boards and methods. I find the lap loom easiest and most convinent to move about in the house. (I weave in my living room and bedroom) I've been weaving for almost a year and half now and I find it an absolute joy. The good thing about weaving is that sometimes I start weaving and I initially don't like my weave but after a while I enjoy it on my wall and it takes a character on its own along with your other artworks.
