Watercolor Freckled beauty

I found this picture on pinterest and her face really struck a cord with me. The soft muted tones and that youth and clarity in her skin, those freckles and grey blue eyes. She looked like an angel to me and this made me want to draw her.

I haven't drawn a portrait for a long while. perhaps the last one I did was last year of my friend's kid then before that it was when I was 16 and obsessed with celebrities. So acheiving this I was very proud. My process to painting this was :

1) Sketch the face or use tracing paper to get the outlines of the main features.

2) Paint a light tone of pale skin, lip and hair color as a outline guide for the skin.

3) I started with the eyebrows then the eyes. I shaded the tones of the face at the same time.

4) Fill in the eye lashes, upper and lower.

5) More shading on the face, adding blush then with an clear wet sz 18 brush I wet her cheeks and did a thin brush of water on the face.

6) Add freckles but dotting the cheeks and nose, first when it is damp then alittle later when its dry.

7) Finish the details on the lips, nose and hair.

8) Add the light reflection on the eyes. (or in the beginner dont color the area)

Drawing in the eyebrows and eyes as well as shading half the face.

Adding the freckles at this point. It's funny how i look at this and I see how people put makeup or photoshop to conceal these beauty marks but I find them so attractive and beautiful on her.

A comparison.

So heres the end result, I'm really happy with it. Shes so beautiful and if i'm ever so lucky I would love to paint more portraits of beautiful women.

Sweet dreams and good week ahead!

xx
